Rapid Access Addiction Medicine Clinic Now Open at Stevenson Memorial Hospital
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[New Tecumseth, ON – February 15, 2019] - Stevenson Memorial Hospital has partnered with Addiction Services of York Region (ASYR) to provide a Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) clinic in the Mary McGill Mental Health Building. The clinic offers treatment for those with alcohol, opioid and other drug-related addictions and same-day counselling services every Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
“Our team strives to be extremely responsive to the needs of our community and this partnership with Addiction Services of York Region is a great example of that promise” explains Jody Levac, President and CEO, Stevenson Memorial Hospital. “We recognize the Ontario government’s commitment to tackling the opioid crisis that is affecting communities across the province and we’re doing our part to provide accessible and responsive care for our community”.
RAAM clinics provide low barrier access for individuals seeking treatment for any substance use disorder. No appointment is needed and individuals will be seen on a walk-in basis, all that’s needed is an Ontario Health Card. The clinics help manage addictions, offer quick access to quality care, and the teams have experience treating individuals struggling with substance use.
“Community Hospital mental health programs like the Mary McGill Community Health service provide comprehensive mental health programming though crisis management, individual counseling, group therapy and psychiatric services. Substance abuse is often a factor that complicates treatment and recovery from mental health issues.” said Lorraine Johnston, Manager Dialysis, Mental Health and Out Patient Department, Stevenson Memorial Hospital. “The RAAM clinics will help our team to provide barrier free access to addiction management and an effective pathway for referrals as needed”.
