Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) is easing visitor restrictions at the hospital and is moving to Phase 3 of its visitor policy effective October 24, 2022. The policy states:
INPATIENTS: Inpatients are permitted one designated visitor at a time between the hours of 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. There is no limit on the number of visitors per day, as long as there is one visitor at a time. All visitors of inpatients (Medical/Surgical Unit, Overflow Unit and Obstetrics) must sign in at the nurse’s station.
*Please note that youth under the age of 16 are not permitted as visitors of inpatients, unless there are extenuating circumstances. This must be approved by the Patient Experience Department (ext. 2310) or the Unit Clinical Coordinator/Director.
*Contacting Patient Experience to be placed on a visitor list is no longer required. Visitors can go directly to the nurse’s station to sign in once they have put on a hospital-provided mask, self-screened for COVID-19 and sanitized their hands.
SURGICAL PATIENTS: One designated support person is permitted post-procedure to support the patient upon discharge.
OBSTETRICAL PATIENTS: Patients in labour and delivery are permitted two visitors/supports at a time.
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT & OUTPATIENT CLINICS: Will remain at one visitor per patient unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Visitors continue to be required to wear medical-grade masks (no cloth masks) upon entry to the hospital, which will be provided. Visitors must wash their hands before entering and after leaving a patient’s room. We ask visitors do not enter the hospital if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or are a high-risk contact of a confirmed case. Hospitalized patients are often immunocompromised and it is important that visitors are diligent in protecting their own family and friends as well as the other neighbouring patients.
No visiting will be permitted for any COVID-19 positive/suspected patients. Family members of our patients can contact our Patient Experience department to book a time to speak with their loved one through technology such as iPads or tablets.
