Effective Monday, July 19, 2021 the following changes will be made to the Visitor Policy at SMH as the province has entered Step 3 of the Roadmap to Reopen:
The updated policy is as follows:
ONE visitor per day per patient will be permitted in our Emergency, Inpatient and Outpatient departments.
EMERGENCY: Patients will be allowed ONE visitor per emergency visit.
INPATIENTS: Patients can have ONE visitor daily; up to a max of three individuals designated as visitors. Visitors are permitted to stay each day during fixed visiting hours:
OBSTETRICS: During the patient’s stay in the OBS unit and during labour, ONE support person is permitted at a time.
SMH understands that not all situations are the same. Special visiting time considerations will be given for TWO designated supports to visit daily as needed with in and out privileges who are:
OUTPATIENT CLINICS: All outpatients will be allowed ONE visitor to accompany them to their clinic appointment. (Including health clinics, Diagnostic Imaging/Ultrasound).
SURGICAL: All patients will be allowed ONE designated support person to receive discharge instructions and help transition out of hospital.
Visiting restrictions will remain in place for COVID-19 positive/suspected patients. Family members who have a patient in our care can contact our Patient Experience department to book a time to speak with their loved one through technology such as iPads or tablets.
All visitors will continue to be required to wear medical-grade masks (no cloth masks) upon entry to the hospital. Visitors must wash their hands before entering and after leaving a patient’s room.
