COVID-19 Assessment Centre at SMH launches online booking

Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) has online booking available for COVID-19 Assessment Centre appointments starting Monday, November 16, 2020. The Centre will continue to run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individuals will have the ability to book an appointment up to 21 days in advance.

The phone line will remain available for those who prefer to book by phone (249) 501-0383 and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on operating days.

To book an appointment, the public can visit www.stevensonhospital.ca and click on the ‘COVID-19 Assessment Centre’ feature on the home page.

SMH is also preparing for the winter months and will be opening their new insulated, heated COVID-19 Assessment Centre structure next week. The new structure is located in the south west corner of the Hospital’s lower parking lot and will accommodate two cars at a time.

In addition, SMH has been chosen as a partner to test the province’s new Lab Automation project, which includes handheld technology and barcoded labels for all COVID-19 tests performed at the Assessment Centre. Staff can efficiently collect a patient’s information by scanning their health card and driver’s license, capturing everything needed for a digital lab requisition quickly. The project will be implemented on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at SMH.

“We are continuously enhancing our services at our COVID-19 Assessment Centre and I am so proud of our staff for their hard work,” says Jody Levac, President and CEO, SMH. “Booking online will make the process much easier for the community and with the new Lab Automation project, we will be able to get patients through even faster. I know the cold weather is upon us, but we are prepared to keep our Assessment Centre running as long as it’s needed,” he adds.

The public is required to bring their Ontario Health Card and driver’s license with them when coming to the SMH COVID-19 Assessment Centre for testing.
