Patient tested for COVID-19 at SMH Confirmed Positive

A patient tested for COVID-19 at Stevenson Memorial Hospital has been confirmed positive.

The patient was admitted from our Emergency Department to our Medical/Surgical Unit on Sunday, March 15 (afternoon) and then transferred to a Regional Health Centre facility on Monday, March 16.

The patient was from the Barrie area.

Staff took all the necessary precautions regarding infection prevention and control measures when caring for this patient. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) were used and the patient was isolated for the duration of their stay.

These measures are in place to ensure that the Hospital remains a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Thank you to our entire Hospital team, ED and Infection Prevention & Control, and Medical/Surgical Unit staff for your diligence in following these protocols. There were no patient, staff or visitor exposures.

At SMH, we are ready and prepared to care for additional cases of COVID-19 as they arise.

To keep yourself safe, be sure to follow best practices with regards to handwashing and social distancing.
