Parking and Access Restrictions in Place

Notice to Patients and Visitors at Stevenson Memorial Hospital

In response to Provincial Ministry of Health directives regarding Ebola Virus Disease, we have enhanced screening practices for all individuals (patients, visitors, healthcare workers, vendors) arriving at Stevenson Memorial Hospital until further notice.

Access to the hospital for the general public is now restricted to the Main Entrance/Emergency Department where the first contact will be with a specially trained screener. Patients will be asked questions about travel history and symptoms prior to travelling to any other areas of the building. Patients arriving for appointments at the Mary McGill Mental Health Centre must also first be screened at the Main Entrance of the hospital.

We ask that patients with appointments in the outpatient clinics arrive about 15 minutes early, in order to complete the screening process prior to registration.

Also, patients and visitors are asked to park their vehicles in the upper parking lot, near the Main Entrance, for easier access to the hospital. Anyone arriving at the lower level entrance (near the hospital cafeteria) will be redirected to the Main Entrance and screening area.

Infection control systems and procedures are in place at Stevenson year-round in order to limit the spread of infections and protect healthcare workers, patients and visitors. We are working in partnership with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and Ontario Ministry of Health to safeguard the public’s wellbeing and to enhance existing procedures as a result of Ebola (EVD).

While changes may be inconvenient to some people, they are necessary steps to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, staff, physicians, volunteers and all members of the public who depend on Stevenson to provide quality care.

We apologize for any delays, and ask that the public understand that the increased vigilance is a necessary and important step.
