Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) Technician

Job summary

  • Reprocesses sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment and services for the care and treatment of patients.
  • Decontaminates, cleans, assembles, packages and processed products for sterilization, as well as requisite recording and control supplies.
  • Strictly adheres to appropriate departmental standards, policies and procedures to maintain safe patient care.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Successful completion of a high school diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • MDRAO Medical Device Reprocessing Techniques Certificate required.
  • Minimum 1-year recent experience in sterilization and instrument reprocessing in a hospital setting is preferred.
  • CSAO membership required.
  • Knowledge of Best Practices for Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS).

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Proven ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written English instructions.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the job including - standing, sweeping, pushing/pulling, reaching forward and above and below the shoulders, able to lift up to 23 kg and manual dexterity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and manage stressful work environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and willingness to be flexible to meet department needs.

Hours of Work:  In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7.  There is the expectation that you are available to work weekdays, weekends and all shifts.
Wages: $24.00 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits (10% if in HOOPP) in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
