In January, 2021 SMH opened the High Acuity Unit (HAU), a new four-bed inpatient unit (Level 2 ICU) providing care to individuals with advanced care needs. The HAU provides the right environment for patients with critical needs close to home, with new equipment and technology that is best for patients needing high acuity care.
This department includes nursing staff who are trained in providing critical care as well as a team including physicians, pharmacists and respiratory therapists.
Patients in the HAU may experience complex care needs such as advanced levels of breathing support, post-operative care needs or support for a single failed organ system.
